The Freddys Stack Rock Hike departs from the Stack Rock Trailhead off N Bogus Basin Road. We ended up hiking back in about 1.5 hours and got back into Boise around 9:00pm. Stack Rocks are two detached pillars of limestone. Freddy's Stack Rock was named after Fred Alleman. Heading north past the Chukar Butte turnoff, trail was sometimes pretty broken up (looked like the cows had come through after a rain), but still solid. Freddie's Stack Rock is an 11-mile trail loop, which is great for a hike or mountain bikeride. I accidentally went right the first time, which takes you down into the valley which you were just walking past from the north and down to the Sinker Creek and Mr. Big trails (#122 and #124, respectively), follow East Side trail until it ends and splits into Mr. Big Trail (#124) and Freddys Stack Rock Trail (#125), and take Freddys. 1,064' Down Tried to do around the mountain trail but too much snow still. Great trail, first three+ miles there are no trees so could get hot in the summer. The tops of the stacks and the ledges below are crammed in spring with guillemots and razorbills, and fulmar and kittiwake nest on the cliffs along with herring and black-backed gulls. We also took the longer route, which didn't help our limited amount of time. This area does have snowshoe trails for winter, and I believe this trail is one of those used during the winter months.
